Burkini ban: Police in Nice force woman to remove part of clothing

Armed police officers forced a woman at a Nice beach to remove some of her clothing as part of the French city's controversial ban on the burkini.

Photos of the incident quickly did the rounds on social media, sparking outrage in many quarters and support in others.
Nice is one of 15 towns that have banned the burkini, a full-length swimsuit that covers the whole body except for the face, hands and feet. It's favored by many Muslim women, but officials say the ban is a response to growing terror concerns.
The incident in Nice took place at the city's Promenade des Anglais, site of last month's Bastille Day truck attack.
The photos show officers, armed with guns and batons, standing around the woman, who was lying on the beach in a blue headscarf and a matching top.
After the woman takes off her full-sleeved tunic, an officer is seen crouching beside her writing what appears to be a note or fine.
Nice authorities say the police officers were simply exercising their duties. Christian Estrosi, deputy major of Nice, denounced the photos saying they put the officers in danger.
"I condemn these unacceptable provocations," he said.

The upcoming Macbooks will be fast in ways you probably weren’t expecting

Apple's upcoming Macbooks need to be a major refresh to the lineup, since the laptop selection is looking a little old lately. We're expecting Touch ID and a new OLED button panel to come to the 2016 Macbook Pro, but code hidden in the latest version of macOS Sierra hints at one additional feature.

According to code uncovered by 9to5Mac, macOS Sierra will support USB 3.1 Gen 2, better known as the upgraded version of USB-C. Apple introduced USB-C ports into its lineup with the 2015 Retina Macbook, and it's a safer bet than ever that those ports will be coming to the new Macbook Pro.

The code 9to5Mac found shows that Apple is planning to support the upgraded USB-C from a software side. Given that the Retina Macbook isn't due for an update for a good six months, and a Macbook Pro refresh has been overdue for some time, it's a safe bet that this code is aimed at the upcoming Macbook Pros.

I'll be disappointed if the new Macbook Pros ditch conventional USB ports entirely, but adding USB-C connectivity could be a major boost. The ports should have the capability for 10Gb/s transfer speeds, which means that one port could potentially handle a high-resolution external display, talk to an external graphics card, and provide power all in one. If that doesn't sound like a laptop you want in your life, there's something wrong.

Bill Gates Is the Richest He’s Ever Been

Bill Gates, the richest man in the world, reached a whole new level of wealth Friday, when his net worth hit $90 billion, thanks to “gains in public holdings including Canadian National Railway Company and Ecolab Inc,” Bloomberg reports. That’s up from the $83.3 billion Bloomberg listed him at in March.

The Microsoft founder’s net worth is $13.5 billion bigger than Amancio Ortega, the second wealthiest person in the world, per Bloomberg’s Billionaire Index. Ortega is the Spanish mogul behind fast fashion retailer Zara.

In January, Wealth X, a wealth-tracking website pegged Gates’ net worth at $87.4 billion; Forbes has him at $78.6 billion. Regardless, Gates is consistently ranked the richest man in the world, and $90 billion is a new record (in the modern era, anyway).

Friend and investor Warren Buffett also regularly tops the lists: Wealth X listed the Oracle of Omaha with a net worth of $65.7 billion earlier this month. Billionaire Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s net worth is pegged at $4.5 billion.

Both Gates and Buffett have pledged to give away at least half of their wealth to charities.

UC Berkeley's Bowles Hall 'castle' reopens as select dorm, for $19,000 a year

They appear to be typical college students, not wizards-in-training, but their new home is anything but standard-issue: a hilltop castle, where they can stay until they graduate from UC Berkeley. "I've always wanted to live in a house that had a library," said Micah Ackerman Hirsch, a junior American Studies major from Palo Alto who took a break last week in a different room -- a lounge with a baby grand, gas fireplace and tall windows overlooking the bay. What makes the newly reopened Bowles Hall stand apart, besides its turrets and $42 million, alumni-financed restoration, is its larger purpose: to make a big school feel small. About 180 undergraduates who underwent a rigorous selection process will live, eat, socialize and study here -- with a corps of live-in graduate students and other academics on hand to guide their college experience.
With classes beginning Wednesday, the reopening of 87-year-old Bowles, the nation's first residential college, is part of a larger revival. The tight-knit houses, which came into fashion at Harvard and other elite colleges in the 1930s, have undergone a resurgence in the past decade, experts say. Ivy League colleges and large research institutions alike, from Princeton to the University of Kentucky, are embracing the throwback living arrangement to give students greater social stability and built-in academic counsel. Some 30 U.S. colleges now have them, as do the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the National University of Singapore.
"This is not just a U.S. phenomenon. It's an international phenomenon," said Robert O'Hara, an education writer from Massachusetts and author of The Collegiate Way website, which tracks the trend.

Indeed, UC Berkeley's outgoing chancellor, Nicholas Dirks, said last year that he saw Bowles "as a pilot project -- a vital step towards the day when we can and will offer all of our freshmen and sophomores housing in residential colleges," according to a transcript of his remarks at a summer groundbreaking ceremony.

On Thursday, as two students sang pop songs at the piano in the high-ceilinged lounge, Ackerman Hirsch, Henderson Wong and Lauren Stoops -- whose father lived in Bowles Hall -- talked about why they signed up. They were among the 30-some students who lived together last year in a pilot program to test the model, which for the first time includes both men and women.

"I was drawn to having a place that was your community, where you can feel at home, even in a place as large as Berkeley," said Ackerman Hirsch. Living in the dorms freshman year, he said, "was very isolating."

Nick Cannon Documents First Day as Howard University Undergrad

If the rumors are true, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas is sleeping with a college freshman. That’s because Nick Cannon has enrolled at Howard University — and yesterday was his first day at school.
The America’s Got Talent host, who graduated from high school in 1998 and soon after started working on Nickelodeon’s All That, documented his momentous day, from posing by a Howard sign with a Louis Vuitton backpack and Timberlands for an Instagram captioned “Class of 2020” to flying home from Washington, D.C.
Nick, who seemed overdressed for August in the capital, also seemed to be psyching himself up by posting several inspirational quotes about education, including one by the late Nelson Mandela: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
Nick, who has twins with Mariah Carey, did not say what he plans to study. However, he is still keeping a busy schedule with America’s Got Talent and a zillion other projects, including the “If I Was Your Man” video he just shot with his rumored real-life love, Chilli Thomas of TLC fame. In the video, they are canoodling in bed. However, they’ve been more vague about their real-life relationship.

Cannon is not the only one shining up his shoes for his first day at school. Ashley Judd announced last week that she has enrolled at the University of California at Berkeley to pursue a PhD in public policy. Meanwhile, Tyra Banks will be teaching a personal branding class at Stanford.

Apple Leak Reveals Massive iPhone 7 Cancellation

We know a lot about the iPhone 7. But just weeks from its release date, it appears Apple has decided to cancel the most powerful, potentially largest and (inevitably) most expensive iPhone the company has ever created…

In a new report the Japanese site explains that Apple decided there is no need to add a new top of the range model above the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. While it will use the ‘iPhone 7’ moniker for the range to avoid customer confusion, after toying with new branding given the range still uses the core iPhone 6 design launched in 2014.
So why is there no flagship iPhone 7 Pro model?

MacRumors fills in the details explaining that the iPhone 7 Pro was a backup model when Apple was unsure it would be able to produce its new dual lens camera in sufficient quantities for the iPhone 7 Plus. This would have seen the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus share the same single lens camera while the iPhone 7 Pro sat above them in limited quantities with the upgraded optics.

Now Apple believes manufacturing constraints around the dual lens camera have been resolved so it can be fitted into every iPhone 7 Plus and there is no need to expand the range. Such a scenario would also explain why we have repeatedly seen photos of three iPhone 7 models.
Interestingly it also demonstrates how keen Apple is to get its dual lens camera onto the market in 2016. This is understandable given rivals including LG and Huawei have already released smartphones with this technology, while it is widely accepted Samsung has stolen the coveted best smartphone camera status away from Apple in recent years with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7.
So is one less iPhone 7 model a good thing? I’d argue both yes and no.

On the positive side, having just two iPhone models does keep the range simple and using the ‘iPhone 7’ brand rather than a new iPhone 6 derivative (iPhone 6SE was rumoured) is likely to sound more exciting to potential buyers.

But there are negatives too. For starters the iPhone 7 Pro appeared to be a true no compromise model which also packed a Smart Connector (something seemingly missing from the iPhone 7 Plus) and leaks had suggested a huge 5.8-inch display and OLED panel. All significant differentiators.

So ultimately Apple’s move seems both logical yet a little disappointing to anyone hoping the company would shake things up a bit more. As it stands, the real iPhone revolution starts in 2017.

Selena Gomez's Secrets to Frizz-Free Curls

Frizz is hands down the cruelest part of summer and no one's hair is spared from getting fuzzy in the heat. Combine high humidity levels with sweating it out on stage during each stop of her Revival Tour, and it's no surprise that Selena Gomez and her go-to stylist Marissa Marino, have a strategic plan for keeping her natural curls smooth and frizz-free this summer.

The secret: keeping Selena's strands strong and healthy to prevent frizz from forming, along with using minimal heat tools when styling her hair. All of the prep work starts when Selena's in the shower. The 24-year-old singer and Pantene ambassador washes her strands with Pantene Pro-V Daily Moisture Renewal Shampoo & Conditioner $4. This duo gives hair a hydrating boost to nourish curls without adding any extra weight.

Post-shower, Marissa runs Pantene Pro-V Style Series Mousse $5 through Selena's wet hair so that her curls are extra soft and bouncy they're dry and styled. "I also always tell Selena to air dry her hair whenever possible, as that reduces that amount of heat I'm using on her hair and protects it from getting damaged--and I highly recommend doing this on a regular basis," Marissa says. Once Selena's hair is dry, she likes to spritz Pantene Pro-V Smooth Anti-Humidity Airspray $5 as a final detail that locks the singer's curls and keeps the frizz at bay.

The Amount of Money Athletes Get For Winning a Gold Medal Varies A LOT

Winning Olympic gold is no mean feat, but with the symbolic medal often comes a paycheck, too. Athletes make a lot of their money through endorsements, but they can also win actual cash for their placement in the competition — some more than others. Different countries offer different amounts of money to the amazing athletes, and the winnings actually vary greatly. Some countries, like the United Kingdom, don't offer money to the medalist at all (ouch). Other countries — like Singapore — offer some MAJOR cash. Here's a breakdown (in USD) of what gold medal winners earn.

Gold medal winners from the United States receive $25,000 before taxes. Silver medal winners receive $15,000, and bronze winners receive $10,000. For team sports like gymnastics, the winnings are not split amongst members — each athlete receives the winning amount.

Canada and Australia reportedly dish out about $15,000 to gold medalists, while Germany hands over around $20,000.

But some countries award gold medalists payouts that are reportedly in the six-figure range. In Singapore, gold medalists are said to receive a little more than $750,000 for their big win (nice!), while Indonesia offers around $385,000, Azerbaijan awards about $256,000, Kazakhstan gives $230,000, and Italy pays a solid $185,000.

Whether the winners receive hundreds of thousands of dollars or nothing at all, we know they're going home with something priceless: the pride of their nation and a sense of achievement they'll likely remember for the rest of their lives.

Sofia Richie Says Goodbye to Her Long Blonde Locks

Sofia Richie has gone for the chop!
The 17-year-old decided it was time for a new look just in time for her upcoming 18th birthday, heading to hairstylist Andy LeCompte for a fresh cut on Friday.
"Yup we chopped it," Richie posted to Instagram, along with a snap of her new shoulder-length hair.
Judging by her Instagram, Richie has sported longer locks for a while.
Though she's disabled comments on her Instagram, Richie is still very much present on the social media site. The same cannot be said for her rumored beau, Justin Bieber, who deleted his account earlier this week.

Last weekend Bieber threatened to make his account private if his fans continued to harass his new girlfriend, later deleting his page altogether after public shade from his exes, Selena Gomez and Hailey Baldwin.

The drama hasn't seemed to affect Richie, however, who laughed off the controversy in a series of Snapchats on Tuesday, even singing one of Bieber's songs, "Let Me Love You."

The New Mercedes-Maybach Is the 6-Meter-Long Car of Your Dreams

Tonight in Carmel, Calif., Mercedes-Benz unveiled the latest of its Maybach line: the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6.
The gullwing 2+2 concept has a low, sleek hood, a massive touchscreen inside, and an all-electric powertrain. It’s meant to show what a Mercedes-Benz car could look like, and do, in 10 or 15 years' time.
Named for its 6-meter length, the Mercedes-Maybach 6 is totally electric, with a massive battery pack located along the bottom of the car. The engine can achieve 750 horsepower; the car will hit 60 mph in less than four seconds. It has an automatic driving function, although Mercedes executives said it’s meant to be driven.
“This is a car you want to drive yourself,” Gorden Wagener, the Daimler AG head of design, told attendees at a cocktail-heavy debut event held on the lawn of the famous Pebble Beach Resort. Mercedes VIP buyers and media drank champagne and ate canapés while white private yachts floated in the nearby bay.
“We see a big movement in analog things, and they are sustainable. … This is something you pass to your children, like a Leica camera or a chronograph watch. Driving has been a pleasure since 130 years and will stay that way another 130 years.”
The grille on the front is made to look like the pinstripes on a suit; the 24-inch rims, dual rear window, narrow side “mirrors” and spine-like divide along the back make the car extremely distinctive. Mercedes executives said it is meant to evoke emotion and intelligence, hot passion and cool rationality: “The key is to combine them,” Wagener said.
Inside, although media were not allowed to open the doors to the concept model, the car apparently has spacious seating for four. It has dials behind the steering wheel made to look like the dial on a mechanical watch and warm, polished wood accents. Executives say it can charge to a range of 62 miles in five minutes, if you use the strongest charger.
This is the latest product unveiled since Mercedes reignited the Daimler-owned Maybach line. Maybach had discontinued its standalone cars in December 2012 after years of making the type of stately European-style schooners that power players such as Jay-Z and Swizz Beatz drove around New York City. It launched the $1 million Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman and the $192,000 Mercedes-Maybach S600 sedan last year.
Mercedes executives wouldn’t comment on if, or when, they might produce the Mercedes-Maybach 6, but they certainly picked the right time to introduce such a statuesque car. The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance—the world’s premier car show and auction site, which showcases the most beautiful and expensive cars ever made—starts Sunday.

Verizon thinks now is a good time to buy an iPhone 6 Plus

It’s almost September 2016, which means new iPhones are about to be unleashed on the world. It also means the iPhone 6 Plus is two years old, and probably preparing for retirement. But even so, Verizon thinks now’s the time to buy the first Apple phablet, and it’s throwing massive discounts at shoppers in an effort to clear store shelves.
From Friday through Sunday you can get $200 off the retail price of the 64GB or 128GB iPhone 6 Plus and $150 off the 16GB iPhone 6 Plus when purchased on a device payment plan. Verizon is also waiving activation and upgrade fees.

I know I just hinted that Verizon’s deal is a bad one, but that only applies to early adopters and savvy tech fans who want to purchase Apple’s next-best thing – in this case, the iPhone 7 launching in about a month or so.

But if you don’t mind using a former flagship device and you want to purchase a brand-new phone rather than a used model, then Verizon’s iPhone 6 Plus bargain is certainly one to consider. In Apple stores, the 16GB iPhone 6 Plus is priced at $649, while the 64GB version costs $749. Apple stopped selling a 128GB iPhone 6 Plus last year when it introduced the iPhone 6s Plus.

Verizon’s end-of-summer iPhone 6 Plus deal can also be combined with other promotions, including 16GB of data for $150 per month for four lines, a free Galaxy J3 V smartphone for each line you activate, and up to $650 in cash to pay off your old contract when you switch to Verizon and trade your old device.

Tim Cook says Apple won't repatriate money to US 'until there's a fair rate'

Apple CEO Tim Cook struck back at critics of the iPhone maker's strategy to avoid paying U.S. taxes, telling The Washington Post in a wide ranging interview that the company would not bring that money back from abroad unless there was a "fair rate."

Along with other multinational companies, the tech giant has been subject to criticism over a tax strategy that allows them to shelter profits made abroad from the U.S. corporate tax rate, which at 35 percent is among the highest in the developed world.

The move complies with the letter of the law, if not the spirit, as a few particularly strident critics have lambasted Apple as a tax dodger. The nonprofit Citizens for Tax Justice estimates that big companies have parked more than $2 trillion offshore, which is subject to more favorable tax rates.

While some proponents of the higher U.S. tax rate say it's unpatriotic for companies to practice inversions or shelter income, Cook hit back at the suggestion.

"It is the current tax law. It's not a matter of being patriotic or not patriotic," Cook told The Post in a lengthy sit-down. "It doesn't go that the more you pay, the more patriotic you are."

25-year-old Duke of Westminster to inherit $12-billion fortune

He is just 25, but Hugh Richard Louis Grosvenor will soon inherit a fortune worth nearly $12 billion.

It is not a windfall that the young man would have wished for so soon, and follows the sudden death of his father, the sixth duke of Westminster. The late duke was the third richest man in the country and 68th in the world, according to the Forbes billionaires list.

Gerald Cavendish Grosvenor became unexpectedly ill on Tuesday on one of the family’s estates near Lancashire in the north of England. He died later in the hospital at the age of 64.

The younger Grosvenor will now inherit a portfolio of properties that span vast swaths of central London’s most exclusive neighborhoods, including Belgravia and Mayfair. He is the third of four siblings but the only son in the family, making him the heir to the family empire under the now-defunct law of primogeniture, which means men can supersede women to inheritance, regardless of age.

Until now, the new billionaire has managed to live his life largely out of the public spotlight despite being born with the title of earl. He is not well known to the British public, and one of the only times he made headlines was for his lavish 21st “black tie and neon”-themed birthday party at the family’s main ancestral home, Eaton Hall. It reportedly cost around £5 million ($6.5 million) and was attended by 800 guests, including Prince Harry, who were asked to make a contribution to the young man's wine collection instead of a birthday gift.
He attended Newcastle University, where he studied countryside management and earned a reputation among friends for being down to earth. Photos have appeared in the British press in recent days showing him partying with friends much like any other young man. In one image he is wearing a pink teddy bear onesie at a costume party.

After graduation, he first worked in estate management for the family company, the Grosvenor Group, then took up his current job as an account manager at bio-bean, a coffee recycling firm that turns waste coffee grounds into advanced biofuels.

Despite attempts to lead an ordinary life, the family moves in some of Britain’s most aristocratic circles and has strong ties to the royal family. Grosvenor’s mother, Natalia, is godmother to Prince William and he was named godfather to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s firstborn, Prince George, in 2013.
“I do feel sorry for Hugh,” Prince William said. “He will be under enormous pressure. He's a lucky boy to be given all the material things in life, but he'll need to be robust mentally to survive. There are many pitfalls, when one inherits such an enormous amount of money, especially in adolescence.”

Grosvenor's parents did not like the British private school system and the four children were given a different upbringing than many of Britain’s wealthiest young people. They were not sent to exclusive private boarding schools like Eton or Harrow but attended a state primary school followed by a private day school.

The late duke of Westminster was well known for his philanthropic acts and charitable values, which he actively sought to instill in his children. During an interview with Britain’s Independent newspaper in 1992, he spoke about the responsibilities his then 17-month-old son would have to deal with. Now his son will oversee the Westminster Foundation, which is the grant-making body that looks after the estate's philanthropic giving. It has handed more than £40 million ($52 million) in grants to more than 1,500 charitable organizations since 1974, a legacy that the young man will have to strive to live up to.

“My main object will be to teach him self-discipline and a sense of duty,” the late duke said of his son. “He's been born with the longest silver spoon anyone can have, but he can't go through life sucking on it. He has to put back what he has been given. He has to see himself as a caretaker, keeping the estates in good shape in his lifetime.”

The non-famous guy Selena Gomez supposedly dated just posted the sweetest Instagram about her

Sometimes relationships, though they don’t last particularly long, make a big impression on you. Sometimes they even change your life. I don’t think any of us expected that we’d hear back from Samuel Krost, a “regular guy,” recent NYU grad, and Selena Gomez’s (alleged) one-time fling – especially after both Samuel and Selena failed to confirm whether they were dating and, around the time they were casually seeing one another, Selena actively told reporters, when asked, that she was “definitely single” (even saying in an October Refinery29 interview “Do not try to date me right now.“)

But now, Selena’s one-time boo has taken to Instagram to (apparently) confirm that the two did in fact date… and to express his ongoing feelings for the popstar. Say what?!

Let’s back up a little bit. According to ELLE, Selena was spotted out on what very much appeared to be dates with Samuel, a pal of Selena’s close friend and model Gigi Hadid, in the fall and winter of last year, holding hands (oooh la la!) on more than one occasion. They even went on a New Year’s trip together, with a big group of their friends, where both Selena and her onetime maybe-boyfriend snapped pics of the trip and shared them via Instagram.
In one particularly beautiful and serene shot taken and uploaded by Samuel, the group (including Selena) is enjoying a meal by the shore, with the caption “PURA VIDA” (a common Costa Rican phrase meaning, literally, “pure life” or “this is life”). Clearly, Samuel felt strongly abut the time he spent with Selena and their friends.

And he still feels strongly.
We’re not exactly sure what prompted Sam to share this now, after all this time that the two have been “on separate paths,” or who the “haters” he is referring to are, but the sentiment is undeniably very sweet. He’s defending Selena as a real, genuine person. And, though the wording is a little bit murky, it seems that he’s attributing his knowing that love exists to his brief relationship with her. Then, of course, there’s the love declaration, which maybe he could have not done on a public forum like Instagram if he wanted to get anywhere with her, but that’s just one gal’s opinion.

Clearly, Samuel rethought the post because he very swiftly deleted it. Regardless, it’s nice to hear that Selena made such an impression on this guy. We already knew she was awesome! And of course, Selena is no stranger to exes that regret the end of their time together – Justin Bieber hasn’t exactly been subtle about his desire to reunite with her, also using Instagram as his forum-of-choice to hint at his feelings for her.

Tyga's legal troubles may get him axed from the Kardashians' Christmas card list

Tyga messed up big time on Kylie Jenner's 19th birthday, and not just because he didn't give her an engagement ring like everyone suspected. Nope, what Tyga did was much worse — he landed himself in legal trouble after gifting Jenner a Maybach.
Why is this such a big deal? Because Tyga's landlord has a $480,000 judgment against him for failing to pay rent on the Malibu mansion he lived in (and reportedly left it in a dire state when he moved out) and the lavish gift, which would have cost at least $200,000, has not gone unnoticed.

However, it's not just Tyga's problem, because according to TMZ, the whole Kardashian clan is worried about how his latest mess will affect their brand, and they were frantically calling him on Tuesday after a judge reportedly issued a warrant for his arrest.

Sources familiar with the situation told the publication that "several family members got Tyga on the horn and railed on him for being super-irresponsible and missing a court hearing." They reportedly also tried to reason with him about the damage it would have caused had he been pulled over and arrested while driving with Kylie.

The Kardashians reportedly don't want this legal mess because of how it may affect their very carefully constructed brand, but it looks like Tyga is going to continue to be a pain in their side for a little longer. He missed his court hearing on Tuesday (which according to TMZ was an opportunity for the landlord's lawyer to question him about where he's keeping his money) because he was celebrating Jenner's birthday with her in the Turks and Caicos.

However, the site notes that Tyga has hired a lawyer to help him clear up the mess. As for Kylie Jenner? We wonder if she plans to return the car, given all the trouble it's causing?

This brand new Pokemon Go map tracker actually works

It’s been over a week since Niantic shut down many of the most popular Pokemon Go tracking apps on the internet, including fan favorite Pokevision. According to Niantic, it was necessary to shut down these trackers in order for the company to continue to release the game in new territories, but while many have stayed dead, new trackers have appeared to take their place.

One of those trackers is called FastPokeMap, and although it is far from being as effective as Pokevision, it should get the job done in a pinch.

What’s most fascinating about the tracker (other than the fact that it actually seems to work) is that the developer has been sharing his progress every step of the way on Twitter. He started working on reverse engineering Pokemon Go shortly after the update rolled out, began beta testing his product a few days later, released the beta on August 7th and has been improving it ever since.

One of the primary differences between FastPokeMap and Pokevision is the scan radius. In Pokevision, when you scanned for Pokemon in your area, you’d see a huge area filled with Pokemon. On the other hand, FastPokeMap is slightly more limited, which means you’ll only see creatures basically within walking distance.

There’s no telling how long it will be before FastPokeMap goes the way of the other trackers, but if you’re looking for something to help you find Pokemon in your area (since the game’s nearby feature is still broken), you can give it a shot.

Robert Downey Jr. Just Burned Tom Hiddleston With the Perfect Taylor Swift Joke

While it’s no big secret that Tony Stark and Loki are enemies in the Marvel universe, their real-life counterparts Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Hiddleston have a friendship that encourages camaraderie and even jest. Case in point? Downey Jr.’s good ol’ fashioned ribbing of Hiddleston’s very public romance with Taylor Swift.

Hiddleston joined Instagram on Tuesday, giving Hiddleswift countless opportunities to do it for the ‘Gram, and like any good friend, Downey Jr. welcomed him with an Instagram post of his own, slyly poking fun at the ubiquitous Hiddleswift headlines in a manner that would make Tony Stark proud.

The image that the Iron Man actor used was of Hiddleston wearing the infamous “I [heart] T.S.” shirt from Swift’s much-publicized 4th of July festivities, which Downey Jr. wryly captioned, “Join me in welcoming the biggest T. Stark fan of them all to Instagram! @twhiddleston”

Apple’s electric car may use a battery design never seen before

Whether or not an Apple branded car ever hits the road remains to be seen, but there’s no denying that Apple has been pouring millions upon millions of R&D dollars into exploring the feasibility of developing an electric car.

Over the past few months, Apple’s car team has ballooned to nearly 1,000 members. In turn, Apple over the last year and a half has hired a number of venerable auto industry veterans with deep experience across all facets of the car development and manufacturing process. Because Apple is particularly interested in developing an electric car, the company has specifically brought on a number of engineers with expertise in battery related technologies.

With that in mind, the Korean-based ETNews is reporting that Apple recently inked a deal with an unnamed South Korean battery company as part of its ongoing interest in bringing an Apple-branded car to market. Intriguingly, the mysterious company is reportedly made up of about 20-25 employees who are said to be “expert technologists in batteries.” Even more intriguing is that the company is said to be perfecting a new type of innovative battery technology wherein the batteries themselves are hollow at the center.

Because batteries create most heat from the center due to chemical reactions, this company has created batteries where air flow and cooling are smooth in the center of batteries and this can minimize installation of separate cooling device or a device that prevents over-heating. They are also advantageous in high output. By utilizing this space, it is easy to design parallel connection, which is to expand battery capacity, in these batteries.
Apple did not choose standardized circular or rectangular batteries that are widely used for current electric vehicles, but it is planning to develop its own independent batteries for electric vehicles based on this Korean company’s hollow battery technology.
“Because we made a NDA with Apple, we cannot discuss any information regarding this project.” said a high-ranking official from this Korean company.
Notably, Apple recently brought back longtime executive Bob Mansfield to lead up Project Titan, lending even more credence to the notion that Apple is dead serious about entering the unforgiving and cutthroat auto market.

KENDALL JENNER AND A$AP ROCKY ARE OFFICIALLY DATING

First there was romance rumors with Nick Jonas, then dating murmurs with Harry Styles and Jordan Clarkson. But Kendall Jenner is now, as Selena Gomez told the press months before, officially off the market. Jenner is "full-on dating" 27-year-old rapper A$AP Rocky, Us Weekly reports.
Jenner and Rocky have been spotted hanging together since February. Rocky was even photographed with her and the fam during Kanye West's fashion week show that month.
"They're both major players," a source told the outlet (though whether they meant players in love or just in their industries wasn't specified.) "They have lots to talk about."

Rocky most recently went with Jenner to her sister Kylie's 19th birthday party last week. Us Weekly notes the couple "acted affectionate" and snuck out the back door together, the mark of true Hollywood love.

It’s Love at First Tweet for Zac Efron and Olympic Gymnast Simone Biles

Simone Biles has captured America’s hearts on her road to Olympic gold with the U.S. women’s gymnastics team. One of those hearts just so happens to be Zac Efron’s.

Like many celebs, Zac has been tweeting his support for Team USA in Rio. However, his focus seems to be on one athlete in particular. “So phenomenal a skill’s named after her. Congrats on sticking the Biles and qualifying for the finals @Simone_Biles!” the hunky 28-year-old actor tweeted after Monday’s qualifying round.

“Thanks Zac! I hope you can watch Team Final tomorrow night,” the 4-foot-9 phenom responded. And you better believe Zac stayed true to his word.

So how did the 19-year-old gymnast come to be the object of Zac’s Twitter affection? Back in March, a very giggly Simone told Ellen DeGeneres that she had a crush on the Neighbors 2 star. And leave it to Ellen to help a girl out. The TV host presented Simone with a leotard adorned with Zac’s face and bod. “He doesn’t know that you have a crush on him, but I want you to get his attention so I got you something to wear at the Olympics,” she explained. While the gymnast hasn’t rocked her Zac Efron leotard in Rio just yet, she certainly has caught the attention of her celebrity crush.

Paul Pogba's Manchester United squad number confirmed

To nobody's great surprise, Manchester United's returning midfielder will take the number 6 shirt. With Memphis Depay currently wearing 7, Juan Mata in 8, Wayne Rooney unlikely to relinquish the no. 10 shirt and Anthony Martial newly installed as no. 11, there really wasn't any option among all the proper numbers. His old no. 42 was free, but apparently he's too big a deal these days.

Paul Pogba!

The no. 6 shirt has a proud history at United. When the Premier League came into being, Gary Pallister was the incumbent and anchored United to four league titles. Jaap Stam took over in 1998-99 and won the treble. Laurent Blanc had one relatively inglorious season in the shirt, Rio Ferdinand had it for a year, but more recently it's been the property of first Wes Brown, then Jonny Evans, fine servants both. All of which rather suggests that Pogba's been bought to shore up the defence. Intriguing.

Still, though. Paul Pogba!

Why Trump is now the most dangerous man in the world

Trump's disclosure that if he is elected president, the U.S. may not defend NATO allies attacked by Russia, breaks over six decades of strong bipartisan support for the transatlantic alliance. Since World War II, every American president has recognized the importance of NATO to the U.S. and they would all reject the madness of Trump's views on the alliance. For example, Ronald Reagan described NATO as "the core of America's foreign policy and of America's own security." Trump fails to understand this central role of NATO in U.S. national security.

If elected president, Trump may accomplish what a hundred Soviet military divisions could not do throughout the Cold War: break NATO and end the successful alliance between the transatlantic democracies.

Whether he wins or loses, Trump has already pleased Russian President Vladimir Putin by harming the credibility of America as an ally and weakening deterrence in Europe. Trump has also refuted John Kennedy's pledge that "the American commitment to the freedom of Europe is reliable." In contrast, Trump promises that as president he is prepared to tell allies under attack, "Congratulations, you will be defending yourself."

NATO is an indispensable part of our national security. According to former Supreme Allied Commander Europe James Stavridis and Dov Seidman, pooled together, the members of NATO have a distinct military advantage: "3 million well-trained troops ... 24,000 military aircraft; 800 ocean-going warships; and close to a trillion dollars of combined defense spending." Without NATO, the U.S. will be a weaker nation. Trump's NATO policy will alienate allies and deprive the US of some of the most advanced military capabilities and strategic bases in the world. Without the support of our allies, the U.S. will be at greater peril and each American will pay more for less security.

Trump's willingness to abandon our allies makes new provocations by Putin more certain and future aggression by Russia more likely. By declaring that he would weaken America's commitment to NATO, Trump is jeopardizing one of the most important components of U.S. national security and is increasing the possibility of war in Europe. In doing so, Trump has now surpassed Putin as the most dangerous man in the world.

If this were not bad enough, Trump has also revealed that he is unfit to be in command of the U.S. nuclear arsenal. In an exchange with the media, Trump talked about responding to a terrorist attack by using nuclear weapons: "Somebody hits us within ISIS, you wouldn't fight back with a nuke?"

This is disturbing because nuclear weapons are not a proportional response to a terrorist attack and it does not make sense to use nuclear weapons against terrorists who are non-state actors. Trump may be willing to destroy thousands of Iraqi or Syrian civilians to kill a few ISIS terrorists, but the American public does not support such indiscriminate violence.

In a recent report, Trump repeatedly asked a foreign policy expert, "Why can't we use nuclear weapons?" The use of nuclear weapons may be the most dangerous and important decision an American president ever faces. Every president since Harry Truman has treated our nuclear arsenal with great caution and reluctance. Trump's question exposes a frivolous and unsafe attitude toward nuclear weapons and the catastrophic consequences of their use. This is another reason why Trump is the most dangerous man in the world.

In December, Trump gave us an important warning. "The biggest problem we have is nuclear ... having some maniac, having some madman go out and get a nuclear weapon." This election, every American voter has the power and duty to stop a dangerous man from destroying our alliances and gaining control of nuclear weapons.

Judo medalist beaten up while celebrating on Copacabana Beach

Dirk Van Tichelt probably didn’t envision one of the greatest days of his life ending in the hospital. But that’s exactly where the Belgian judoka found himself Monday night hours after winning his first-ever Olympic medal.
Van Tichelt won bronze in the 73-kg judo competition on Monday. Naturally, he went off to Copacabana Beach that night to celebrate the achievement. And that’s where things went awry.
Van Tichelt was reportedly assaulted by a thief on the famous beach, and was struck in the face. He was taken to the hospital after the incident.
The thief, who was reportedly Brazilian, came away with a cellphone, but, crucially, not with a bronze medal.
The Belgian Olympic Committee released a statement confirming the details, and saying that Van Tichelt didn’t require treatment at the hospital. He appeared at a media event the next day with a black eye, and, undoubtedly, a smile on his face.
Van Tichelt now has more than just a medal to commemorate his Olympic success.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is furious with 'chicken s**t' male co-stars of Fast 8

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has claimed that his "blood is legit boiling" in a new Fast and Furious 8 video posted on Instagram by him. Sharing a wordy message along with the raging video clip, the former WWE star slammed the male co-stars on the set of his upcoming movie. Although, Johnson did not name anyone in the cryptic Instagram post, the wrestler-turned actor called them "chicken s**t" and "candy asses".
As The Rock shared a scene from the final week of his shooting as agent Luke Hobbs on the sets of Fast 8, Johnson went on to rant about his co-stars on the popular picture-sharing site.

"There's no other franchise that gets my blood boiling more than this one," he wrote adding, "An incredible hard working crew. UNIVERSAL has been great partners as well. My female co-stars are always amazing and I love 'em. My male co-stars however are a different story."

With the social media rant, Johnson clearly indicated about trouble brewing amid the co-stars of the upcoming instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise. According to him, some of the cast members are true "professionals" but others are not. Slamming the second category, the 44-year-old actor wrote, "The ones that don't are too chicken s**t to do anything about it anyway. Candy asses."

He continued with his rant saying, "When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I'm not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling - you're right." Finally he shared a word about his hunky character of Agent Hobbs, who seems to have gone undercover into the prison according to previous reports.
"Bottom line is it'll play great for the movie and fits this Hobbs character that's embedded in my DNA extremely well. The producer in me is happy about this part. Final week on FAST 8 and I'll finish strong. #IcemanCometh #F8 #ZeroToleranceForCandyAsses," he added.

The ensemble cast of the latest Fast and Furious movie features popular names such as Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Kurt Russell, Jason Statham, Charlize Theron, Helen Mirren, and Scott Eastwood. But none of them have yet responded to the jab made by Johnson on his male co-workers.

FF8 is scheduled to hit the US theatres on 14 April 2017.

The Obama Sisters Hit Martha's Vineyard in Style

Continuing in their established tradition of slayage over the weekend were Sasha and Malia Obama, who stepped out looking lean, mean, and pristine in the perfect summer vacation outfits. The Obama daughters are on vacation with their parents in Martha’s Vineyard, and were spied boarding Air Force One in looks that reminded us that they are indeed one fashionable pair.

Malia, who spent last weekend living it up and shaking her tail feather at Lollapalooza, ditched her cutoff short shorts for a shin-grazing, white button-front dress, pairing the very comfy-looking frock with leathery sandals and a printed backpack. She let her long tresses fly free in the breeze, the very picture of a carefree teen ready to enjoy the summer. Her younger sister Sasha paired a white button-front skirt with a black-and-white striped short-sleeved blouse, and white Converse sneaks. She carried her essentials in a structured taupe bag.

Young man killed while playing Pokemon at tourist attraction

A 20-year-old man was shot to death while playing "Pokemon Go" at a
tourist attraction along San Francisco's waterfront, authorities and a family friend said.
Calvin Riley was shot Saturday night by an unknown assailant at Aquatic Park near Ghiradelli Square, the U.S. Park Police said Sunday.
A family friend told KGO-TV Riley and a friend were playing the hit mobile game when he was shot.
"From what we know there was no confrontation.
There was nothing said back and forth. It was just senseless, just came up and shot in the back and ran away for nothing," John Kirby said.
Kirby said Riley and his friend had noticed someone watching them from the top of a hill that overlooks the park, but it was dark and they were mostly looking at their cellphones.
National Park Service spokesman Lynn Cullivan said investigators believe there are witnesses to the attack because it happened in the bustling Fisherman's Wharf area. They are seeking tips.
Sgt. Robert Jansing, a detective with the U.S. Park Police, said the gunman did not take any of Riley's belongings or try to rob him.
It's unclear whether the attack had anything to do with "Pokemon Go," which has become a national sensation this summer as legions of fans visit real-world landmarks in order to find and trap cartoon creatures.
But the game's popularity has created unintended consequences in everyday life. Property owners complain of players trespassing or damaging their grounds and scores of players have been injured or robbed as they stare at their phones in search of digital monsters.
Law enforcement officials have warned about the game's possible dangers, saying players can become engrossed in the game and tune out to their surroundings.

This ridiculous bus could change public transportation forever

Remember when images of this hypothetical “straddling bus ” — built to literally act as a moving bridge on highways — first hit the internet? The
group consensus was one very long “Hmm,” both due to the enormity and cumbersome nature of the design. There was no way that this would ever
become a real thing, except a full-scale model of said straddling bus has now been built and tested in Qinhuangdao, China.
The first thought I have when I look at this giant waddling contraption isn’t
one of awe at technology’s advances; it’s more like “Oh good god, this is terrifying.” While part of this discomfort must, and does, arise from the fear that
we all have when we encounter something we’ve never seen before, there’s also the very real learning curve that new technologies have before
they’re perfected in practical use. And when the stakes are streaming columns of fast-moving traffic? Mm, I don’t know.
But of course, the straddling bus is meant to tackle a real problem head-on — China’s intense traffic.
In statements to Chinese media, multiple officials underlined the two real drivers behind the creation of the straddling bus (formally known as the
“Transit Elevated Bus”): Saving road space and cost efficiency, as subway lines (which, at their conception, were probably also terrifying) can cost over five times as much to build.
As for the specs? The bus is two meters tall, can house up to 300 passengers at once in a cabin, and can be linked up to a chain four buses long max. While the test run of the straddling bus took place on a controlled track, we suppose it’s only a matter of time before this sci-fi vision ends up on a real road. And while we’re making a fuss about it, we have to applaud anyone thinking up new ways to innovate public transportation — though we still have our fingers crossed for flying cars.

Cowboys QB Tony Romo Selling Million-Dollar Texas Home

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is sacking his contemporary home in Irving, TX. He’s selling the two-story pad for $1.05 million, the Dallas Morning News reports.
The elegant house isn’t even among the 20 most expensive homes currently for sale in the city—which is unusual for a baller with a multimillion-dollar contract.
Built in 1993, the 5,551-square-foot,
Mediterranean-style house in the gated Cottonwood Valley community rests on a third of an acre and has six bedrooms and four bathrooms. The two-story entry opens to a living room with a stacked
stone fireplace. The kitchen is appointed with quartz counters and a butler’s pantry with wet bar.
The backyard features a pool, spa, and entertaining space.
The Morning News says Romo is planning to move into a bigger, newer home near the Bent Tree Country Club in North Dallas.
Romo has played for the Cowboys since 2003, breaking team records for most games with three or more touchdown passes and most games with at least 300 passing yards. Although the four-time Pro Bowler has never led the team deep into the playoffs, he signed a $108 million contract extension with America’s Team in 2013, which ensured the QB at least $55 million in guaranteed
money. He’s married to Candice Crawford, former Miss Missouri USA and a TV journalist. They have two sons, Hawkins , 4, and Rivers, 2.

Robert Downey Jr shares cryptic Avengers Infinity War poster suggesting MCU and MTVU merger

The third and fourth Avengers movies are being directed by brothers Joe and Anthony Russo.
Robert Downey Jr shared a rather confusing poster from the upcoming Avengers Infinity War movies raising hopes of a merger between the Marvel
Cinematic Universe and Marvel TV Universe. The Hollywood actor took to his Facebook account to share a poster, which appeared on fan website Movie
Pilot, three days ago.
He captioned the picture with just one word "excited".
The picture has sparked a debate over whether the superheroes from TV and Netflix series will appear in the upcoming Avengers sequel. The image has Part I and II as the movie titles, which is odd, considering directors Joe and Anthony Russo have already
confirmed that the third and fourth movies will be titled differently as "the movies are two very different movies," and Part I and Part II is simply "misleading".
"It was announced the other day that it wasn't Infinity War part one and two anymore it was Infinity War and that the second is a connected but definitely distinctly different and as yet untitled Avengers sequel. So even the title on this is wrong right now. And they've long
suggested crossovers from the TV universes to be unlikely," one fan commented on the 51-year-old actor's Facebook post.
"A lot are saying this is fan made. Real or fan made this would be a fantastic cast! Either way infinity war is going to be the biggest superhero event of the decade," wrote another.
Back in December 2015, Anthony Russo denied any possibility of a crossover saying the idea is "complicated".
"It's complicated. When we start to serialize the telling of stories is difficult. You have to have a lot of control and focus on the course of history. The films
are controlled by a group led by Kevin Feige, so they function as a unit. Other products, even if they are from Marvel, are controlled by others. Then there is
the possibility of a crossover, but is more complicated. It is a smaller version of the problem that exists when thinking that Fox has the rights to certain characters, Sony and others," Anthony told Super Interessante, a Portuguese language website.
The plot of the upcoming Avengers movie will focus on Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet. Josh Brolin, who plays the character of the Mad Titan, has already said that he was "blown away" by the script. "Basically, my character against everybody. And it's really fun what they've chosen to do with the story," he said in June.
Marvel's Avengers Infinity War is expected to hit theatres on 4 May 2018.

Strangled New York City Jogger Bit Her Attacker So Hard, Her Teeth Cracked: Source

The 30-year-old jogger found sexually assaulted and strangled to death this week in New York City "put up a ferocious fight" before her death, police said.
Karina Vetrano tried fighting off her attacker until the last moments of her life, police said at a Thursday news conference. Her body was found facedown in a Queens park Tuesday, about a dozen feet from the jogging trail, by her father.
A police source tells PEOPLE that Vetrano bit her attacker so hard, her teeth cracked. The source says
investigators have recovered DNA from Vetrano's bruised body.
"This woman put up a ferocious fight right to the end,"
New York City's Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said during the news conference.
Boyce told reporters police believe the attack on Vetrano was random, and not committed by someone she knew.
Police are still searching the thick grass for additional clues, and detectives continue to comb through the marshlands at Gateway National Park in Howard Beach, looking for any evidence that can help them identify Vetrano's killer.
"We plan to chop down just about every weed in that location till we're satisfied that we've got all the evidence," Boyce said. "This is a remote area. A young
lady was running – still daylight – so I am hoping somebody saw something going into the park."
Vetrano was reported missing just after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, and her body was recovered shortly before 11p.m.
Boyce said Vetrano would typically run with her father, who decided to sit out Tuesday's jog because he was dealing with back pain.
When she didn't return, her dad called the police, who pinged her phone. It showed that she was in the brush
near the park's jogging path. The father went out with police and discovered her body 15 feet from the jogging trail, Boyce said.
Boyce said his detectives are also reviewing cell tower records to see if any other phones were present at the time Vetrano was killed.
Funeral services for Vetrano will be held at noon Saturday in Queens, preceded by a Friday wake.
Vetrano was a "popular, sweet girl," one person told the New York Times. "Everybody knew her," they said.
The bar where she worked called Vetrano a "dear friend," according to the Times.
"Karina was an amazing person; she will forever be in our hearts," the business wrote on Instagram, according to the paper.
A $10,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to an arrest of her killer.

Speaker Paul Ryan hints at "President Hillary Clinton"

In a message to supporters, House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis. warned of the consequences of losing the Republican majority in Congress. He wrote: “We could be handing President Hillary Clinton a blank check.”
Some have noted “blank check” was the same language used in 1996 by Republicans when it became apparent former Sen. Bob Dole (R-Kan.) would lose the presidential election to President Bill Clinton.

Britney Spears forgot she met Taylor Swift and people are freaking out

Britney Spears is a living legend, one who has nearly 20 years experience in the music industry, and who has
broken numerous records for her music throughout her illustrious career.
We also know that Britney Spears is one of the wackiest people in the industry, too. Her Instagram is a joy to behold. While some stars share heavily filtered
and often photoshopped pictures on to their accounts, Britney can be found sharing pictures of grilled cheese
sandwiches and adorkable selfies with her two beautiful children.
The 34-year-old singer and queen of Las Vegas also loves memes and cute things that are SO mommy.
Britney is currently in the midst of promoting her new single, “Make Me,” which features Oakland, Calif. born
rapper G-Eazy, and recently spoke to a couple of Australian radio stations.
During one of the interviews with KIIS 106.5, Britney was asked whether she would rather take a long-haul flight with Katy Perry or Taylor Swift.
“I’ve briefly met Katy Perry, at the Smurfs movie premiere,” she said. “So actually, no, maybe because I’ve met Katy Perry I’d say Taylor Swift, because I’ve never met her before.”
Fans on social media, however, were quick to point out that this wasn’t actually the case.
Taylor and Britney did actually meet back in 2008 at the MTV VMAs, where Britney scooped three awards.
The pair had previously met back in 2003, too.
While it is kinda funny that Britney can’t remember meeting Taylor, it was nearly a decade ago that they met and it was probably a really brief moment where
they just posed for a photograph.
During the interview, Britney also spoke about her two boys, Sean Preston and Jayden James, were totally obsessed with Pokémon Go.
“It’s taken over my kids’ lives,” she said. “They go in these phases, but when they really get into it it’ll be like 20 minutes of, ‘Mom! There’s a one right there.
There’s a Pokémon right there!’ I’m like, ‘Oh my god, you’re scaring me!'”
Aww, bless you, Britney. If we’re being 100% honest, we sometimes get freaked out by it all, too. You just keep doing you!

Nigerian behind $60 million online fraud network arrested: Interpol

A Nigerian behind an online fraud
network which engineered scams worth more than $60 million (54 million euros) has been arrested in southern oil city of Port Harcourt, Interpol said on Monday.
"The 40-year-old Nigerian national, known as 'Mike', is believed to be behind scams totalling more than $60 million involving hundreds of victims worldwide," the international police organisation said in a statement.
"In one case, a target was conned into paying out $15.4 million," Interpol said, indicating that the arrest was carried out with the support of Nigeria's anti-graft
agency the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC).
"The network compromised email accounts of small to medium businesses around the world including in Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Romania, South Africa, Thailand and the United States," it said.
The suspect ran a network of at least 40 people working from Nigeria, Malaysia and South Africa which used malware and carried out the fraud, and he also
had money laundering contacts in China, Europe and the US who provided bank account details for the illicit cash flow.
"Following his arrest in Port Harcourt in southern Nigeria, a forensic examination of devices seized by the EFCC showed he had been involved in a range of
criminal activities including business e-mail compromise and romance scams," it said.
The suspect and a fellow fraudster, 38, who was also arrested in the city, face charges including hacking, conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretences.

How a chipmaker has some of Wall Street nervous about Apple's iPhone 7

On an earnings call last week, audio semiconductor company Cirrus Logic's CEO Jason Rhode said that despite a sunnier overall outlook for his company, he is not expecting "any outlandish unit growth in the mobile market," according to an earnings conference call transcribed by FactSet.
While Rhode did not mention the iPhone-maker directly, he noted the "intense interest" among investors related to their largest customer — widely understood to be Apple — which is expected to announce a new iPhone as soon as September.
"We certainly decline to provide guidance itself, but if you've got to have something for your model, I would kind of look at the last handful of years for September to December and just pick something on the low end of that sequential growth — low end of that spectrum just to be conservative," Rhode said.
Some analysts were reading the tea leaves from Rhodes' comments, noting the company also seemed to be seeing a "more cautious" iPhone 7 build
compared to the iPhone 6s. That would be consistent with results from Skyworks, Texas Instruments, Knowles and other iPhone suppliers, KeyBanc analysts John Vinh and Jun Wang wrote.
After Cirrus' report, KeyBanc's Vinh and Wang wrote they believed that iPhone 7 component orders were tracking down 15 to 20 percent compared to the
second half of 2015.
Indeed, despite the uncertainty around how consumers could react to new products this fall, Rhode seemed to
leave the door open for a blockbuster iPhone, too, saying Cirrus is trying to balance the possibility of getting stuck with excess inventory with the possibility of resource constraints.
"That said, like happened a couple years ago, [in] the whole industry there was a product that hit the ball out of the park and the whole industry was completely out of capacity all the way through June. If that sort of thing happens, there's not much we can do about it," Rhode said on the call. "It's certainly something we
have our eyes on in case things take off."
Cirrus also weighed in on the elimination of headphone jacks from phones, a move that some say may happen on an upcoming iPhone.
"We've already seen multiple Android handsets that are shipping that eliminated the headphone jack and either ship with or have as an accessory a USB headset or an adapter of some sort," Rhode said. "So that's a really remarkable opportunity, and we're very well-situated to capitalize on that."
In spite of speculation around iPhone demand, Wall Street saw bright spots in the report for Cirrus.
The company reported better-than-expected earnings last week amid strong demand for portable audio
products. Shares popped 19 percent on Thursday , days after Apple also reported iPhone sales that weren't as
bad as expected during the quarter.
Canaccord analysts note Cirrus has share expansion within the Android ecosystem. Stifel analyst Tore Svanberg raised the price target on Cirrus, citing
progress to win momentum in digital headsets amid softer iPhone growth.
"While we recognized that there continues to be a considerable level of conservatism and skepticism on iPhone units, sales, we still, however remain
comfortable with the company's abilities to significantly outgrow its peers," Svanberg wrote.

‘Pokémon Go’ got updated, and not everyone is happy with the changes

Pokémon Go just got a huge update on Android and iOS — its largest to date, in fact — and not everyone is in agreement on how to feel about the changes. After nearly a month of almost absurd
popularity, it comes as little surprise that Niantic, the app’s creator, is making some adjustments, but a number of players are a bit perplexed as to a new
feature (or lack thereof): the complete elimination of the Distance Indicator, or “steps.”
For weeks, players thought that there was a bug in the Pokémon Go app that made it seem as though every Pokémon was three steps away. But instead of fixing this with the app update, Niantic has just decided to do away with the number of steps altogether. That means that all you know now about the location of your next capture is that it’s somewhere in the general vicinity. Great. Super helpful.
Apparently, this decision was made as a result of safety concerns, as geolocation seems to often come with rather alarming side effects. Still, players probably won’t be too pleased about the
change.
But there’s quite a bit of good news too! Thanks to the latest update, you can recustomize your character, even after you’ve created him or her.
When it comes to battle, Damage Per Second (DPS) has been improved for almost all moves, which is said to make combat all the more entertaining. Lots
of nests across the globe (because remember, this is truly an international game) are now spawning different species, which is keeping things
interesting for those who have been playing for quite some time now.
And finally, you can now save yourself from accidentally transferring your favorite Pokémon thanks to the elimination of the transfer button
from the bottom of the game’s details screen.
So get back out there, Pokémon lovers. There’s a whole new world for you to discover.

Girl, 14, cuts her brother's girlfriend's throat and tells her 'Have a nice afterlife'

Kali Jade Bookey from New Richmond, Wisconsin, was charged as an adult by police on 28 July with attempted first-degree intentional homicide. If
convicted, she could be jailed for up to 40 years.
Bookey is currently held without bail in juvenile custody before a preliminary hearing slated for 8 August.
Police documents claim that she attacked her victim –her brother's girlfriend – in the girl's bedroom, by
attempting to suffocate her. She is then alleged to have smashed two bowls on the victim's head, and finally cut her throat with a shard from one of the bowls.
According to a criminal complaint, reported in Eau Claire Leader-Telegram , Bookey called the St Croix County Sheriff's Department on 27 July, claiming that two men in a green pickup truck attempted to kidnap her while she was out for a bike ride.
She claims to have told the men that her brother's girlfriend was home alone and they should take her instead. The girlfriend was later found by deputies in
her bedroom, bleeding profusely. The girl, 15, was then taken by ambulance to a hospital.
The victim said Bookey asked her if she wanted to die or bleed out, with the 15-year-old opting for the latter, the complaint states.
Bookey described herself to the victim as a 'crazy psychopath' looking for her first kill, then told her to "have a nice afterlife" and left the trailer.
Police investigators say that Bookey admitted she hated the 15-year-old because she made her brother
happier than she was able to, and planned the attack a week and a half before, during previous bike rides.
On the day in question, Bookey said she left her home at around 4am and rode 11 miles on her bike to her victim's trailer, stating that she wanted to scare her alleged victim so that her brother would "come back to the family".
Bookey's mother, Dawn Bookey, told the Associated Press she had no idea about the planned assault.
"We had no clue," the mother said. "There were no signs. We're all very, very sad."
